Neuro Biomed is focusing on the development of a new class of neuroprotective agents and an advanced drug delivery system for the treatment of neurological disorders.

NB-3108: a novel neuroprotective and neurogensis agent

Neuro Biomed's first drug candidate in clinical development is NB-3108, a neuroprotective and neurogenesis agent. NB-3108 is a novel neuroprotective agent for acute treatment of stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI), as well as for prophylactic treatment of neurological damage associated with coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

The initial targeted application of NB-3108 is for the treatment of stroke, which is the third leading cause of death in the US, Europe, and Japan. Over 500,000 stroke victims are reported every year in the US alone.  There are approximate 500,000 ischemic incidents resulting from traumatic brain injury and open heart surgery, such as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

Current treatment is limited to thrombolytic therapy, which dissolves the causative blood clots.  However, there is no approved compound aimed at prevention or rescue of the resultant neurological tissue damage.  The high mortality rates, and the significantly higher disability percentage resulting from such ischemic events, are due mainly to this lack of neuroprotective agents.

The major challenge in development of neuroprotective drugs, to date, has been the prohibitive toxicity of compounds directed at the early events which occur upon an ischemic insult.  The second serious hurdle has been is that, in order to achieve any effect, they had to be administered within a very short time frame after the insult; an impossible feat under the current medical procedures.

The neuroprotective capacity of NB-3108 was validated in animal models of transient cerebrovascular ischemia, where it was shown to significantly minimize brain damage as measured by infarct size.  In parallel studies, it was shown to decrease the post-ischemia neurological functional decline, even when administered hours after the insult.  This has particular significance in treatment of the human affliction.

The wide therapeutic window for administration makes NB-3108 especially effective in treatment of stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury patients, with late hospital admission.

The preclinical safety results showing that NB-3108 had no harmful side effects, cardiac, respiratory, liver or other, when administered to animals, even at doses 100 times higher than the effective dose.  NB-3108 exhibits a unique combination of superior efficacy (in animal models of stroke) combined with an excellent safety profile, proven in pre-clinical studies.

NanoBio Drug Delivery System

Our patented NanoBio Drug Delivery System is based on the advanced development of the novel nanostructure bio-electric membrane for drug delivery and diagnostic applications.

  • NanoBio Membrane 's™ properties make it an ideal drug delivery platform, with high efficiency/capacity of drug loading-up to 97%

  • safe biodegradable product

  • Totally needle-free delivery system for injectable drug formulation.

  • Heat and radiation stable for ease of gamma radiation

  • Ensure aseptic system with built-in nanoscale membrane (50 nanometers) eliminating particulates, bacteria, and endotoxin.

  • NanoBio Membrane is suitable for most injectable formulations

  • Nanoscale pore size and Bio-electric charges can be controlled to accommodate different drug release pharmacokinetics (over hours/days/weeks and months)

  • Bio-electric charges of the membrane enable interface with microelectronic processor for precise programmable controlled delivery

  • Self-regulating delivery system with built-in microchip for ‘smart' monitoring and diagnostic applications.
